After the suspicious death of an individual in Mackenzie, BC, the BC RCMP North District Major Crime Unit (ND MCU) was deployed according to a media release.

On September 29, the Mackenzie RCMP responded to the report of shots fired in the early morning hours. The location of the reported shots was a residence located on 100 block of Centennial Drive in Mackenzie, BC.
Frontline police officers who responded to the call, entered the home and discovered a deceased male inside of the residence according to the release.
The BC Prosecution Service approved a charge of Second-Degree Murder against Drake Matthew Kerr of Mackenzie on October 1, 2024, and a warrant for his arrest has been issued in connection with the charge.
The North District Major Crime Unit is leading the investigation, collaborating closely with the Mackenzie RCMP and the BC Coroners Service.
The public can anticipate a heightened police presence in the area over the next few days as the investigation progresses.
The death is considered an isolated incident, and investigators do not believe there is any ongoing threat to public safety.
