On October 17, residents of the North Peace were treated to a unique take on a produce pop-up shop which featured music, dancing, and various fruits and vegetables for affordable prices.
This shop was organized by Desert Hills Ranch and was held at Surerus Park from 11:00-5:00, which had multiple lanes set up to accommodate the large amount of traffic that came throughout the day.
“I think for us, bringing affordable produce to people is our goal,” said the Desert Hill’s team. “This is our first time to Fort St. John because we have been so busy this year and the season went so fast.”
People from all over the Peace came for their chance to fill their fridges with fresh produce at a good price and were treated to music and the occasional dance performed by the Desert Hills team.
"When you go to the Lower Mainland everyone in a busy rush, but here, everyone is just so kind to our staff. The Northern people are just great people, and they’re so good to our staff and our team. Next year we’re going to do peaches and tomatoes as well," said the Desert Hills team. “We just went to Abbeyfield House and we had a blast there! They were dancing with us and these memories make our trip.”
Desert Hills Ranch stated on their social media that Abbeyfield House was a wonderfully run seniors facility and they were so grateful to be able to donate a large amount of produce and sneak in some dances.
“We love donating to the senior people, for us we feel like seniors kind of get left behind so in every town we try and donate to the food banks of course, but we also love donating to the seniors and giving them a dance.”
“Honestly, we love our customers. Our biggest thing is we put everything back into our employees and our customers, that’s how a business is built.”
Additionally, the Desert Hills Team announced on their social media that they would be donating their tips made while in the North Peace, which would be matched by the boss to the family of a young man who recently lost his life in a motorcycle accident.
“If you’re from Fort St. John, many have heard about Bobbi Moore and the loss of her son. No parent should ever have to go through something like this. It’s truly heartbreaking. Many of us are parents back in Mexico and even though it’s not much we are going to donate our tips today. We made just over $1000 dollars, and our boss is going to match it,” said Desert Hills Ranch on social media.
