North Peace says heartfelt goodbye to local watering hole

Local watering hole Casey’s Pub has been reduced to ash, following a significant structure fire on December 8.

Seven apparatus and 16 firefighters were dispatched to the 8100 block of 100 Avenue for a significant structure fire on December 8, at around 4:30am.

The Fort St. John Fire Department squared off against a working fire that originated in the basement and extended into the attic of the building according to a media release.

The building was empty at the time of the fire luckily, and there were no reported injuries among civilians or firefighters.

Crews were unable to enter the structure due to the intensity of the heat and the extent of fire spread, so firefighters utilized a defensive strategy by using the aerial apparatus and handlines that were positioned around the building for effective fire suppression.

By 6:30pm the fire was considered under control while crews spent an additional six hours following containment, ensuring the fire was fully extinguished while addressing potential hotspots.

To ensure the safety of both firefighters and the public, power to the surrounding area was temporarily disconnected during suppression efforts. The department collaborated with BC Hydro and other agencies to reduce the impact of the outage on residents.

While the cause of the fire still remains under investigation, the local Fire Department thanked the community for their understanding and patience during this incident. They expressed their gratitude and appreciation to supporting agencies and BC Hydro for their assistance.
