MLA Dan Davies presented three individuals with the King Charles III Coronation medals for their services and contribution to the community, during a ceremony held at the Fort St. John Royal Canadian Legion Branch 102 on September 5.
“The King Charles III Coronation medal is a visible, and tangible way to recognize outstanding individuals of all ages who have made a difference in our community,” said MLA Dan Davies during the presentation. “Our commitment to Canada is strengthened when we collectively honor those who distinguish themselves by virtue of their talents, generosity and service to their community and their country.”
Individuals may receive this medal for their contribution to Canada or to a particular province, region, territory or community. Recipients may also receive this award for significant achievements abroad which brings credit to Canada.
North Peace residents Edward Stanford, Margaret Little, and Connie Surerus received the King Charles III Coronation medal, which was presented by MLA Dan Davies.
The first to receive their medal was Margaret Little. “Margaret is a fierce advocate for everything seniors in the region. We are blessed to have you in our community and blessed to have you fighting for seniors and the needs of seniors,” said Davies.
Edward Stanford was next to receive a medal for his valuable contributions and support within our community. “Edward is absolutely a community pillar, and I think we can all agree that Edward is much deserving of this incredible award,” said Davies. “There are very few organizations that I have connected with, where I don’t see that friendly face of Edward who’s at it.”
The third medal was presented to Connie Surerus for her work within the arts community, as well as her philanthropy within the community. “Anybody that’s in the arts community knows the contributions of Connie,” said Davies. “The arts community in Fort St. John and throughout the region is absolutely unbelievable, and Connie Surerus is one of those pillars.
Following the presentation of the three medals, a surprise was still to come. Former Senator Richard Neufeld came forward to present MLA Dan Davies with a medal of his own.
“Congratulations on receiving this medal. The people that received these here today certainly have been hard workers for this community, they’ve all contributed an awful lot, but so have you,” said Neufeld. “As an MLA, you have done very well for this part of the province, you’ve been advocating for us and working hard at it.”
