Hailing from Fort St. John, Jim Hughson is one of the most recognizable play-by-play voices in hockey. With more than 40 years of experience in broadcast booths throughout North America, he has delivered the play-by-play commentary for many of the sport's most significant moments in recent history.

He spent 16 years as a play-by-play broadcaster for Hockey Night in Canada (2005-2021), serving as the lead announcer for the final 13 years and calling every Stanley Cup Final during that period.

He also provided commentary for the 2006 and 2014 Winter Olympics, the 1991 World Junior Championships, as well as numerous NHL All-Star Games and Winter Classics.

Earlier in his career, he was TSN’s lead play-by-play broadcaster for hockey and baseball from 1987 to 1994, covering NHL games along with those of the Toronto Blue Jays and Montreal Expos.

Jim’s career took a significant turn when he served as an occasional replacement for Jim Robson on Vancouver Canucks radio broadcasts on CKNW from 1979 to 1982. He later succeeded Robson as CKNW’s play-by-play announcer for the Canucks from 1994 to 1999.

From 1998 to 2008, he was the play-by-play voice for the Vancouver Canucks on CTV/Rogers Sportsnet. In 2019, he received the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award from the NHL Broadcasters Association.
