Missing hiker in the North

Sam Benastick was reported missing by his family On October 19, 2024, after failing to return from a camping trip in Redfern-Keily Park, located off Highway 97 near the Sikanni Chief area. His last contact with family was on October 8, 2024.

According to a media release from the RCMP, October 17 was the date that Benastick was supposed to return.

 

Benastick is an experienced hiker and camper, and was equipped with a black Osprey backpack featuring red drawstrings, a tarp, and a range of other camping gear.

 

This behavior is unusual for Benastick, and his family is deeply concerned for his well-being.

 

Various resources have been deployed, including the Police Dog Services Unit and Search and Rescue teams to aid in locating him according to RCMP.

 

Anyone with information on Sam Benastick or who has been in the Redfern-Keily Park area since he began his hike on October 7, 2024, is urged to contact the Northern Rockies RCMP at 250-774-2700.

 

Investigators released an update on October 28 and have determined that the last known location of Sam Benastick wasmat the trailhead of the Redfern Lake trail area, where he embarked on his journey riding a red Honda dirt bike.
