The local RCMP received a report of a missing person on October 18, whom Fort St. John police believed to be grouse hunting in the Chetwynd area after an initial investigation. Chetwynd RCMP were advised of the missing person investigation on Saturday October 19.

According to the RCMP media release, James Joseph Edmund Barnes had reportedly gone on a hunting trip with his golden retrieved, Murphy.
Barnes was driving a grey Chevrolet pickup at the time and was reported missing to local RCMP on October 18 after failing to return home.
Through the investigation it was discovered that he had been seen with his dog and his vehicle on Ground Birch Road off the 269 Road on Friday, October 18, 2024, between 11:00 - 11:30 a.m. according to the media release.
The 2004 Chevrolet pickup with BC license plate LJ1 O79 has been found, although James and the dog were not present with the vehicle.
Search and Rescue teams have been deployed, but all attempts to locate James have so far been unsuccessful. Police are now turning to the public for assistance in advancing the investigation.

• 5’ 11 (180 cm)
• 201 lbs (91 kg)
• Brown hair
• Brown eyes
• Big moustache
• Last seen wearing a green/blue TC Energy ball cap, green or blue hoodie and jeans.
