Kelly Shular was arrested following a proactive traffic stop in Fort St John on December 20 and is facing multiple charges.
Local RCMP conducted a proactive traffic stop on the 10800 block of Alaska Road North, in Fort St John on December 20, at 2:44am according to the release.
The vehicle that had been stopped was believed to have been in a recent flight from the RCMP.
The suspected driver, who was believed to have recently fled from the police, was found inside the vehicle during the investigation.
The man was arrested for the recent incident of fleeing from police and for outstanding warrants.
A loaded sawed-off shotgun was also discovered in the vehicle during the investigation, and as a result, the man is facing several new firearms charges while the vehicle has been impounded.
“A proactive traffic stop by one of our officers, led to the seizure of prohibited weapon and keeping our community safer," said Constable Chad Neustaeter, Media Relations Officer for the Fort St John RCMP.
According to the media release, the new charges include:
• Careless storage of a firearm,
• Possess prohibited firearm without registration certificate,
• Occupy a vehicle knowing there was a prohibited firearm in the vehicle,
• Possess a loaded prohibited firearm without authorization,
• Possess prohibited firearm knowing that he was not the older of a license,
• Fail to Comply with Probation Order and,
• Two counts of Possess a firearm while prohibited.
While the warrant charges include:
• Two counts Drive while prohibited MVA,
• Flight from police,
• Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle,
• Fail to comply with Probation Order.
