On May 22, Classroom Champions held a surprise event at Burt Ambrose Elementary School here in Fort St john to honor Ruth Lee and Laurie Wright.
The special event at Burt Ambrose will highlight the champion mindset and mentorship initiatives designed to foster growth mindsets, improve student engagement, and to inspire positive classroom cultures according to their website.
An assembly was held on the morning of May 22, where Ruth lee was recognized as a dedicated teacher and honored for her invaluable contributions to the school community in a surprise award ceremony.
Principal Laurie Wright was also recognized and celebrated for her leadership, creating an environment where kids can grow, and her dedication in integrating Classroom Champion’s programs into the school.
Jarrod Bell, Director of Instruction at School District 60 attended the surprise assembly, who is a long-time supporter of Classroom Champions. "Classroom Champions has made a remarkable difference in our schools by leveraging technology and the mentorship of World Class Athletes to inspire our students," said Jarrod. “This event is a wonderful opportunity to recognize the hard work and dedication of our educators who have embraced these tools to enrich their classrooms."
Canadian National Skeleton Team member and Classroom Champions mentor Grace Dafoe joined students after the award assembly while visiting classrooms to offer an opportunity for the students to engage with their mentor in real life. "I am excited to meet the students in person and to see the impact Classroom Champions is having in the school and community," said Grace. “I love mentoring them throughout the year and sharing about the Champion Mindset.”

Classroom Champions hosted an additional event at Duncan Cran Elementary on May 23, and Hudson’s Hope Elementary May 24.
Classroom Champions has made an impact for over a million students to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially by means of mentorship and the mindsets of world-class athletes according to their website. The Classroom Champions Teacher’s Award, along with these events are made possible by the support of The Energizing Communities Collective (The Collective).
More than 300 Paralympic, Olympic, and university student-athletes volunteer as mentors with more than 5000 teachers.
