December Library Report

Dear Fort St. John,

November went by quickly, and December promises to be just as busy.

Not only do we have returning programs like: Toddler Time, Baby Time, Young Scientists, and D&D Returning, we will have some new programs such as German Story Time, and the Harry Potter Yule Ball on December 14th!

The best way to keep up-to-date with everything we are doing is to check our Facebook / Instagram pages, and our website www.fsjpl.ca.

For December, I wanted to briefly touch on what FSJPL is as an organization.

In BC, all public libraries, regardless of specific type (Municipal Library, Regional Library or Library Associations) fall under the Library Act. Under the Act, all library programs, and all collection lending must be free. We do charge for some services, such as photocopying, 3D Printing, and exam invigilation, but this is usually at cost or at a loss.

FSJPL is a Library Association, meaning when we were founded in 1950, it was by community members, not local governments or the Province itself. This means we do not have guaranteed funding year-to-year, although we are starting to form longer-term agreements with our main Funders: PPRD Areas B and C, and the City of FSJ. We have been extremely fortunate to have a Regional Committee, City Council and public service staff members that have been so supportive of us.

Fundraising still represents an aspect of our activities, and if you are interested in donating follow this QR for more information.

If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas relating to Library Services, you can reach me at director@fsjpl.ca or call 250-785-3731.

Have a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and a Wonderful New Year!
